One word a day. That's it.
Most vocabulary apps overwhelm you with flashcard decks, spaced-repetition algorithms, and daily streaks that feel like homework. Verba does the opposite: one beautifully chosen word each morning — its definition, its origin, how it sounds, and how to use it. That's your whole day's practice.
4,051 curated words span 15 categories — from Emotions and Philosophy to Mythology, Music, and Architecture. The same word appears for every user on the same date, chosen deterministically from the library. No server required. No account either.

Frequently asked.
Where do the words come from?
Verba ships with a catalogue of 4,051 carefully curated words across 15 categories. Each day's word is picked deterministically by date — the same word appears for every user on the same day, with no server needed. Definitions, pronunciations, and synonyms are fetched from the free Dictionary API and Datamuse, then cached locally so the app works offline after first load.
Does Verba work offline?
Yes. Once you've loaded a word, it's cached on your device and available indefinitely — no internet connection required. Word selection itself is entirely offline (the catalogue is bundled in the app). Only the first fetch of a word's rich content (definition, audio, synonyms) requires a connection.
Do I need an account?
No. Verba requires no account, no sign-in, and no email address. Your journal, settings, and word cache are stored locally on your device only — nothing is uploaded to any server.
Will the same word ever repeat?
With 4,051 words and one new word per day, a word takes approximately 11 years to cycle back. For most users, no word will repeat in any meaningful timeframe.
Can I change the app's appearance?
Yes. Verba includes five carefully designed palettes — Vellum (warm cream), Paper (clean white), Dusk (deep purple), Sage (forest green), and Rose (soft pink) — each with a light and dark variant. The home screen widget adapts to whichever palette and mode you've chosen.
